| Submissions & Writer's Guidelines Nexxus is currently overstocked with stories, and we will not be buying or considering new manuscripts until sometime next year. However, if you are a new writer, we will consider your work for our new writer showcase later this year. Writer's Guidelines are very simple: Nexxus, the Speculative and Science Fiction Online Literary Magazine, was founded in January 2001. We are a quarterly electronic publication of literary science fiction, available to Internet subscribers only. Our circulation varies from 1500 subscribers to 30,000 hits per issue. We buy first North American Serial Rights only, and we pay upon publication. SASE, if submitting through the mail. We report on the status of your manuscript in four to six weeks, and we publish a manuscript an average of six to twelve months after acceptance. Simultaneous electronic submissions are discouraged. Fiction: "We basically want good, literary stories. Our audience does not need to be scientifically literate, but our authors must be, where required. We are devoted to the best literary science fiction by new and established writers. There is no formula, but we do insist that science be integral to the plot." We purchase 10-12 unsolicited manuscripts every quarter. Length: 3,000-6,000 words. Pays 5-7 cents a word. Non-fiction: "We are also looking for quality non-fiction articles on a variety of topics related to science fiction." We purchase 1-2 articles a quarter. Same payment rate for non-fiction articles.
