| Welcome to Nexxus, the Speculative and Science Fiction Online Literary Magazine of the 21st Century--the only one of its kind on the Internet.
Our MissionWhen we first launched Nexxus on January 1, 2001, there were few online
professional science fiction magazines, and even fewer devoted to literary science fiction. Today,
the Internet is crowded with many different kinds of 'zines, some professional and many amateur,
but none that seek out the finest in literary science fiction. In the last dozen electronic issues (or
so), I am proud to say that my devoted staff and I have spotlighted some of the finest short
stories in this or any other genre, and we've discovered many new talents as well. Last year, we published one of the Hugo-nominated short stories, "A Gift of Verse" from John Flynn, and a handful of other great stories. Please enjoy the
freebies, and if you like what you see, please subscribe. That's the only way that we are going to
be able to continue to deliver quality literary science fiction.
The Latest NewsNew Writers Contest: We will be having another New Writer's Contest, starting in September. Please stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, if you are a new writer, perhaps you should consider submitting your work to The Writers of the Future contest. Congratulations to Hugo Nominees: We want to congratulate all of this year's Hugo nominees! And we are thrilled to announce that many of talented people that we recommended for a Hugo nomination have made the final ballot. Catherine Asaro and her novella "Walk in Silence," Jay Lake and his novelette "Into the Gadens of Sweet Night," William Widder and his Best Related Book, Master Storyteller: An Illustrated Tour of the FIction of L. Ron Hubbard, Frank Kelly Freas and Frank Frazetta up for Best Artists, John Flynn and Jeff Berkwits up for Best Fan Writers, Frank Wu up for Best Fan Artist, "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" up for Best Dramatic Work (long), and "Firefly: The Message" up for Best Dramatic Work (short). Our predictions last year were very close to the final ballot, and we want to wish all of the potential nominees our best. We may be a bit partial here, but we want to wish our long-time contributor and supporter John Flynn well on his third nomination as Best Fan Writer; may this third time be the charm to beat Dave Langford and win the Hugo trophy. We also want to highlight one of the best books on the field of science fiction that has come out in a long time, and that is William Widder's Master Storyteller. No other work has ever captured that giddy feeling most of us old enough to remember the pulps had with each new issue. Good luck to Bill as well.
